The new 48-knife Biogas drum from Krone for our Big X forage harvester is a special design that was developed to meet the requirements of modern Biogas facilities. Offering a 20 percent higher chopping frequency for even shorter and higher-quality chops and using 2 x 24 V-shaped knives, the unit achieves a nominal chop length of as short as 1.6mm and of up to 12mm. The length is set steplessly from the cab.
The use of this Biogas drum will lead to a substantial boost in efficiency in biogas plants that are fuelled by the maize chops the new drum produces.
What’s more, the new biogas drum will lead to substantial savings in diesel fuel per tonne of harvested crop while increasing gas yields and throughput inside the plant. At the same time, the short chops eliminate floats and deposits inside the fermenter as well as the need to pre-chop the material at the plant site, saving plant operating costs. At the same time, the plant’s operational reliability increases as well.
Summary: The new 48-knife biogas drum is now available alongside the 40-knife drum, providing substantial savings throughout the entire biogas feed chain. As gas yields increase, fuel consumption per harvested acre and per cubic metre of biogas produced drops significantly.
