Official opening of Krone logistics centre
Minister President David McAllister loads big baler
Spelle, 24th May 2012 – Minister President of Lower Saxony David McAllister loaded a Krone big baler as part of the official opening ceremony for the new Krone logistics centre in Spelle (Emsland). In his short welcoming speech, Mr. McAllister told his audience that the company’s €2.6m investment was a clear statement of intent, and that once again, the Spelle site was set on a course of growth.
With a floor area of approximately 4,000 square metres, the new building has four general loading bays plus one given over specifically to handling containers. An average of 20 to 30 HGVs are turned around each day, enough to transport between 120 and 150 machines. The new logistics centre also accommodates Krone’s printing press and the Krone Drivers Point. The in-house printing team are responsible for running off instruction manuals and for generating parts lists at short notice to be included with outgoing consignments. The new Krone Drivers Point is a modern, well-equipped facility where drivers arriving from all over Europe can wait for their vehicle to be loaded. It offers a kitchenette and day rooms.
Immediately after the official inauguration of the logistics centre, McAllister had another duty to perform, one that he described as giving him “great personal satisfaction”: Together with Bernard Krone, he laid the foundation stone for a new training facility, situated just 200 metres from the main Krone logistics centre. Drive&Train is due to be completed by early 2013 and will host all future training courses at Krone. Every year, thousands of dealers from more than 40 export markets attend intensive courses extending over several days, learning how to operate the latest Krone products. The total investment in Drive&Train will amount to approximately €3 million.
